BMW Motorrad wins reader’s vote "Motorcycle of the year 2011“ of MOTORRAD mag

BMW Motorrad wins the reader’s vote "Motorcycle of the year 2011“ of MOTORRAD magazine in four categories.

Winning the categories "Touring“, "Sport“, "Enduro/Supermoto“ as well as "Naked“ and scoring three more podium places BMW Motorrad achieved another outstanding result after 2010 at MOTORRAD magazine’s 13th reader’s vote “Motorcycle of the year 2011”.

"I’m glad to hear of the big approval our motorcycles got also this year and I would like to thank the readers of MOTORRAD most sincerely for their votes. In particular I’m glad our supertourers – the K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL – met with so much readers’ enthusiasm even before starting sales. Their success reflects the big importance of BMW motorcycles if it’s all about enjoying travelling with motorcycles in a fast, safe and comfortable way”, said Hendrik von Kuenheim, Head of BMW Motorrad, commenting on the result of the vote.

Being represented by a six-cylinder motorcycle in the category “Touring” for the first time the new BMW K 1600 GT/GTL scored second place with 19.6 percent at the first go – almost on the same level with the BMW R 1200 RT placed on first with 20.2 percent. With it just 40 percent of the readers’ votes in this category fell on the big BMW touring motorcycles.

As last year the BMW S 1000 RR scored an unchallenged first place in the category “Sport”. 33 percent of MOTORRAD’s voting readers honored the outstanding technical conception combining four-cylinder performance with Race ABS and Dynamic Traction Control DTC. The success was completed by the BMW HP2 Sport scoring third place.

Once more the BMW R 1200 GS and R 1200 GS Adventure confirmed their leadership in the category “Enduro/Supermoto”. 25.5 percent or a fourth of MOTORRAD’s readership settled for BMW Motorrad’s best sellers and voted them on first place again in the ballot.

As in the last two years BMW Motorrad maintained the first place also in the category “Naked Bikes”. Here the new, active BMW R 1200 R/Classic convinced the readers the most.

In the category "Allround“ BMW Motorrad scored the second place. With high riding dynamic and travelling skills as well as innovative technologies as the ESA II (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) the BMW K 1300 S filled a lot of MOTORRAD readers with enthusiasm.

The awards ceremony took place on the occasion of the fair “Motorraeder Dortmund” 3rd of March, 2011 in the Dortmund Westfalen stadium. Not less than 200 motorcycles and scooters went for the titles sought after in the 13th edition of the reader’s vote “Motorcycle of the year 2011” being considered the most important reader’s vote for motorcycles and scooters in Europe. Since 1999 more than half a million readers took part in this vote.
