KTM announces 990 SuperMoto R

Word on the street is that KTM has announced a new production 990 Supermoto R, which should arrive at dealers in the Spring of 2009. Whether Canadian dealers will get the go-fast machine isn't clear at the moment. So we'll just focus on the what we know for now. If we hear more we'll let you know.

The 990 Supermoto R, is claimed to be the fastest ever of its breed. it will incorporate the big twin LC8 motor and new Brembo Monoblock brakes. Sounds like this machine will really live up to KTM's moto: "Ready to Race!"

The Supermoto R has a smaller tank so you won't get far, has a narrow upright seat... Sounds much like a Ducati Hypermotard S fighter. The R will apparently weigh in at 190 kg about 418 lbs for you non-metric folks. That's heavier than the Ducati Hypermotard S but the 990 LC8 engine pumps out a claimed 85 kilowatts at 9,000 RPM in the regular SuperMoto. 85 kilowatts converts to just shy of 114 horsepower by Google's calculations. Advantage - KTM.

It's a sharp looking machine too. It's got a black coated swinger arm, orange-coloured lacquer, and powder coated tubular steel frame.

The KTM 990 Supermoto R will be officially presented to the public for the first time at the innovations trade fair EICMA in Milan. Start of production is planned for February 2009.
