Cardo scala rider G9 used in 14,000 km motorcycle journey

Ryan and Colin Pyle Used the Cardo scala rider G9 for Communication throughout “The India Ride”, their 14,000 Kilometer Motorcycle Circumnavigation of India

India Ride Team Used Cardo scala rider G9 to Aid Communication in Tough Terrain –
World’s Most Advanced Wireless Bluetooth  Motorcycle Communication System

Cardo Systems, Inc., the world’s market leader in wireless Bluetooth communications for motorcycle helmets, today announced it sponsored the recently completed “The India Ride” (, an ambitious 14,000 kilometer, 54-day motorcycle journey around India. The India Ride was completed by Ryan and Colin Pyle, two brothers who previously completed the Middle Kingdom Ride, a Guinness Book of World Records circumnavigation of China.

Through their epic journey the brothers used the Cardo scala rider G9 to communicate with each other and their support and filming team. The product is the most advanced motorcycle helmet communication system that enables clear and reliable wireless, bike-to-bike intercom communication. Operating at a range of up to one mile, the scala rider G9 enabled both riders to relay important information, which proved to be especially vital while they were traversing difficult and dangerous terrain. Cardo had previously also sponsored the Middle Kingdom ride of brothers Ryan and Colin, who used Cardo’s scala rider® communication system on their grueling adventure ride around China.

“The scala rider absolutely enhanced our trip and allowed us to communicate and ride with four eyes instead of just two,” said Ryan Pyle. The India Ride team encountered harsh conditions during the journey including injuries, landslides, harrowing road hazards, construction, and altitudes above 16,000 feet. The entire journey was recorded by professional videographers, and will be presented on television in the third or fourth quarter of 2013.

“Kudos to the Pyle brothers and their team on their impressive accomplishment,” said Cardo's CEO Abraham Glezerman. “Ryan and Colin embody the magic appeal of motorcycle touring under the most demanding conditions and beautiful terrain. The fact that our scala rider G9 exceeded their expectations on this ambitious and at times grueling journey is very gratifying and also gives us the feeling that a part of us was there. We put our products through tough tests and we are thrilled to see our products meet or exceed real world challenges like the India Ride. We salute them and all other Cardo scala rider users throughout the world who have ridden with our systems through breathtaking and challenging environments to fulfill their dreams.”

The Cardo scala rider G9 offers unparalleled connection functionalities, with wireless access to a rider’s mobile phone as well as streaming GPS and MP3. The Intercom offers not only Conference Mode among four riders up to one mile, but also intercom toggling to up to eight other riders. A new “flash pairing” feature allows riders to establish a connection with other users by simply bumping two of the units together. Many of the device’s functions can be managed by voice commands, allowing riders such as Ryan and Colin to keep all of their attention focused on the road.

The scala rider G9 is now available at select distributors, retail outlets, and specialty shops. For more information, please visit

Botturi at the Dakar with Husqvarna Rallye Team by Speedbrain

Botturi at the Dakar with Husqvarna Rallye Team by Speedbrain

Husqvarna Rallye Team By Speedbrain have signed up top Italian rider Alessandro Botturi to take part in the Dakar ’13 aboard the Husqvarna TE449 RR by Speedbrain. This will be the second Dakar for the thirty-seven years old rider from Lumezzane (BS), after his surprising eighth place finish in last year’s rally which earned him the prize of "rookie rider" in the competition.

Botturi brings from the world of enduro a wealth of experience, in which he has won a string of important victories in the world championship and the International Six Days, as well as having taken nine Italian titles.

Botturi has been concentrating on international rallies for a year now, getting excellent results in the FIM Cross Country Rally, finishing in second overall place in the rally of Sardinia.

"I feel really honoured to be a part of such a highly rated team like the Husqvarna Rallye Team By Speedbrain at the Dakar right now." – stated Alessandro Botturi. - "The TE449RR has proved itself to an extremely competitive bike especially in the most recent races. It has won the Pharaons and was one of the main protagonists of the Morocco Rally. As always I’ll be doing my best to help bring the team success in such an important event. "

"Alessandro Botturi’s inclusion in the Husqvarna Rallye Team By Speedbrain settles the line-up for the next Dakar" points out team manager Wolfgang Fischer, "with Barreda, Goncalves, Fish and Botturi we’ve got an extremely competitive team that blends well together, who we can rely on to be right up there with the competition. I like to take this opportunity to wish Cody Quinn all the best after his thigh-bone injury at last week’s Baja 1000, who won’t be able to form part of the team, but will be on the Husqvarna TE449RR by Speedbrain as soon as he will be fully recovered."

BMW Motorrad GS Trophy 2012

After 24 months of planning, after qualifying events around the world attended by riders from 32 countries, the BMW Motorrad GS Trophy 2012 is at last established on the Trailanqui Resort near Temuco – ready to go! Now all that is missing is the riders, all due to arrive within the next 24 hours.

Freed from their five 40-foot shipping containers are the 62 BMW F 800 GS, 20 R 1200 GS Rallye and 5 G 650 GS Sertão motorcycles, now fully prepared for the start. In total 87 motorcycles and 15 cars will travel the 2000km route with 114 people, including the 45 competitors, 15 team journalists, two doctors, mechanics and organisational staff.

Michael Trammer, chief organiser of the BMW Motorrad GS Trophy, spoke from on site:

“Everything is ready at last, the organising staff are all here, the final checks and double checks have all been completed. And the riders are flying in right now, from all over the world. Ahead of them a packed eight-day programme of adventure, with no time for a rest day like the Dakar! How tiring will this be for the competitors!

“In contrast to the Dakar, the GS Trophy is not a race. Speed is never a relevant factor. But nevertheless the Trophy is very challenging: participants have to get up early in the morning, they don’t know which route profile and special tests are awaiting them during the day and they have to make long distances day by day. That adventure starts right here, in less than 48 hours from now.”

The BMW Motorrad GS Trophy 2012 will get underway at 09.00 hrs (Chilean local time) on Sunday 25 November.

Motorcycle Sreamliner prepares for 400 MPH run

Continually leading advancement in powersports lubrication technology, Bel-Ray is pleased to announce their association with Sam Wheeler and his motorcycle streamliner project. Wheeler’s quest is to top 400mph and break the current motorcycle land speed record of 376.156 MPH.

Considered by the industry as the best designer/constructor/driver in motorcycle land-speed record competition, Wheeler will draw upon his 50+ years of experience to build and pilot the machine. Powered by a single Vance and Hines-built Suzuki Hyabusa 1300 engine coupled with a turbocharging system supplied by Mr. Turbo, the machine will arrive at the Salt Flats with more than 500 horsepower. With optimal weather and salt conditions, the odds are positive that Wheeler will capture his goal.

“We are thrilled to be a part of this exciting adventure,” said Bel-Ray Chief Operating Officer Jennifer Liquori. “To achieve a world record top speed Sam needs to surround himself with high performance partners and Bel-Ray is delighted to be a part of that group. Our high performance lubricants have been trusted by consumers and racers for years and Sam’s trust in Bel-Ray means a great deal to our company and partners. We can’t wait until the conditions are right and he reaches his goal.”

"We are very happy to have Bel-Ray join us as a sponsor for our land speed record attempt,” said Wheeler.  “Bel-Ray is recognized as the leader in specialty motorcycle lubricants.  They have a wide range of specialized American-made lubricants that will be used in our effort. With Bel-Ray filling our lubricant needs, we will have one less thing to worry about."

“Parts Unlimited is pleased to have Bel-Ray join our EX-HOOK/Parts Unlimited streamliner project,” said Fred Fox, founder of Parts Unlimited. “Bel-Ray is one of the oldest and most trusted names in motorcycle lubricants and their products and assistance will be a great help to our effort.  We have great confidence in Bel-Ray, as does Sam Wheeler.”

In order to achieve a world record, Wheeler must complete the 12-mile course, once in each direction. There must be less than 2 hours of elapsed time in between each run. Using the times determined in the center timed-mile section, the two runs are combined and a top speed is determined.

Poor salt and weather conditions postponed the original fall 2012 attempt until spring 2013.

Toronto Motorcycle Show - December 7-9

In less than a month, Ontario’s biggest motorcycle manufacturers’ show will take center-stage as industry leaders and enthusiasts gather at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (South) for The Motorcycle Show-Toronto, December 7-9.

One of the Toronto Show’s hallmarks has been its ability to attract an impressive display of new motorcycles, scooters and ATVs, including several Canadian debuts. This year’s Show continues that tradition.

BMW Motorrad has announced two exiting new Canadian model debuts for Toronto. First up is the much anticipated liquid cooled boxer, the new 2013 BMW R1200GS.  The“GS” is the most important model over the past 30-years to BMW Motorrad’s success globally, and now it has been totally updated.  Power has been increased from 110 hp up to 125hp, it has been changed from air-cooled to liquid-cooled, with an all new design and appearance, new electronics including changeable ride modes plus variable electronic suspension.

Their second new model is the 2013 BMW HP4.  According to BMW Motorrad, this new high performance motorcycle is a limited production special model based off the S1000RR superbike. It boasts 193hp and weighs in at only 169kg (372 lbs). The HP4 will bring with it new technology such as Dynamic Damping Control(DDC), a semi-active suspension system, launch control and further updated ride modes beyond the original S1000RR.

Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada will be rolling out their new 2013 motorcycle models at this year’s Toronto Show. The debuts include the lineup of 110th Anniversary editions of select Harley-Davidson models: a re-styled Dyna Street Bob motorcycle; several Dark Custom bike models; and two new models from Harley-Davidson Custom Vehicle Operations  (CVO) - the CVO Breakout motorcycle and the CVOTM Road King motorcycle.

In 2013, Harley-Davidson Motor Company also launches Hard Candy Custom, a styling movement of the late1960s that embraces dazzling metal flake paint and brilliant chrome.

While checking out the new bikes, attendees are encouraged to meet the H-D team to learn more about their programs, including the Test Our Metal demo rides, rider training, contests, and of course, all of the exciting celebration details surrounding the Harley-Davidson 110th Anniversary, which will be taking place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from August 29, 2013, through September 1, 2013.

The Motorcycle Show-Toronto is the first stop on a national cross-Canada tour which features hundreds of new motorcycles, a wide-range of exciting exhibits and features, all under one roof, in a space equivalent to three football fields.

“Not only will enthusiasts get to see the newest in bikes, apparel and accessories at next month’s Motorcycle Show-Toronto, but they’ll also learn about some of the most scenic and best riding routes to explore anywhere in the world, and they are right here in Ontario,”  explained Show Manager, Neil Fardy.  “We’re once again thrilled that Ontario Tourism and their partners have selected our Show to highlight all of the great destinations this province has to offer.”

This will be the only motorcycle show appearance of the season for the Ontario Tourism exhibit. Attendees will meet with experts from various regions in Ontario who can inform them on the best riding roads, as well as motorcycle-friendly accommodations, restaurants and attractions throughout the province.

They’ll have their interactive motorcycle trip planner up on a bigscreen, and staff will be there to demonstrate how riders can customize a route to their tastes, and then download the route and all of the waypoints to their GPS or mobile phone.

Mike Jacobs is Ontario Tourism's official motorcycle writer. He recently completed a 60-day,15,000 km road trip of Ontario, riding nearly every paved road between Manitoba and Quebec. Jacobs will be on-hand all weekend with videos and image galleries of his travels, as he shares his experiences with riders, and lets them in on some of the hidden gems in the province.

You can also pick-up your copy of the Top Ten routes in the province, as well as the official Ontario Road Map.

Produced by Power Sport Services, the Motorcycle Show-Toronto boasts a strong  line-up of manufacturers, including Arctic Cat, BMW Motorrad, Can-Am/BRP, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda, KTM, Piaggio, Polaris, Suzuki, Triumph, Victory and Yamaha.

Husqvarna TE449 RR by Speedbrain at Dakar Rally 2013

No desert too wide, no mountain too high: the Husqvarna TE449 RR by Speedbrain.

Back at the start of 2010, Speedbrain began developing a version of the BMW G450X, which was specifically designed to meet the demands of marathon rallies. BMW made its return to the Rally Dakar with this bike at the start of 2011. By spring 2011, the engineers at Speedbrain had already started to develop and assemble a new rally bike: the Husqvarna TE449 RR by Speedbrain.

It is an ultra-modern and innovative racing motorbike, which is particularly light, possesses good handling and stability on a wide range of terrains, giving the rider maximum confidence. Husqvarna is feeding its know-how into the further development of the engine and endurance mapping to improve stability. Speedbrain and its research and development department are responsible for developing the chassis and rally-specific components. The bike is continuously being developed and optimised in cooperation with the riders.

At the heart of the bike is the Husqvarna TE449 engine, which has been modified to handle the demands of rallying. Husqvarna is responsible for the development, design and overall performance diagnostics of the 450cc engine, and supplies the race-ready power train to the Speedbrain team. The Husqvarna TE449 engine is one of the bike’s biggest strengths and has been optimised again ahead of the 2013 Rally Dakar.

The electronics form one complex but key area, as the rally bike is equipped with numerous navigational and safety components.

The Husqvarna TE449 RR by Speedbrain has its own electronics system, which was developed specifically for this motorcycle and is also the subject of continuous modifications and improvements.

In addition, Speedbrain reworked and partly redeveloped the entire frame concept after the 2012 Rally Dakar. As such, the bike that lines up at the 2013 Rally Dakar will be a further development of the bike used in 2012, which has been improved in many areas.

Among the features of the rally version is a very compact, concept-driven package in the chassis area. This allows the optimal integration of the two-part central/rear tank in the bike, which in turn guarantees the rider maximum freedom of movement, Enduro-like ergonomics and perfect balance. The fact that the Husqvarna TE449 RR by Speedbrain is so light is down, in part, to the aerodynamically optimised Carbon Kevlar fairing and a special rear part. The Carbon Kevlar engine protection with integrated three-litre water tank gives the engine and the low rally header pipe full protection.

BMW Motorrad takes up cooperation partnership with Bimota

S 1000 RR engine for new 4-cylinder model.

BMW Motorrad will be supplying the Italian motorcycle manufacturer Bimota with the engine of the BMW S 1000 RR. For its new 4-cylinder model, Bimota has opted for what is currently the best 4-cylinder in-line engine in the supersports motorcycle segment. An initial concept of this new motorcycle will be on show at the EICMA in Milan.

By selecting the in-line 4-cylinder power unit of the BMW S 1000 RR, Bimota has gone for the technologically most innovative straight-four engine currently available. Its low weight of just 59.8 kilograms, an output of 142 kW (193 bhp) at 13,000 rpm and an extremely speed-resistant valve gear with two overhead camshafts and weight-optimised cam followers make it the perfect power source for the new Bimota project.

Bimota boasts a long tradition of 4-cylinder supersports motorcycles. The very first Bimota models back in the 1970s were powered by in-line 4-cylinder engines. For around four decades, the name Bimota has stood for technologically innovative and painstakingly crafted supersports bikes made for motorcycle enthusiasts - in spite of an eventful history.

BMW Motorrad and Bimota engaged in a collaborative partnership once before. In 1995 the Italian company presented the BB1 Supermono, a supersports single-cylinder model powered by the engine of the BMW F 650. The BB1 Supermono with BMW engine had an output of 35 kW (48 bhp), weighed just 167 kilograms and achieved a top speed of 196 km/h. 376 of this light supersports bike were built between 1995 and 1996.

Husqvarna Concept BAJA

Off-road fascination in seventies American style.

Exactly one year ago, Husqvarna presented the Husqvarna Concept MOAB at the EICMA in Milan ‑ a study designed as a modern interpretation of the scrambler theme. It is a motorcycle which embodies both the identity and the history of the Husqvarna Motorcycles brand.

Husqvarna Concept BAJA – seventies style and passion combined with the technology of today.

Husqvarna Motorcycles is now taking idea this one step further with the Concept BAJA. The motorcycle combines tradition and modern design and, in conjunction with cutting-edge technology, reflects the essence of what Husqvarna Motorcycles stood for in the sixties and seventies.

In over 100 years of company history, Husqvarna Motorcycles has been able to achieve outstanding success in international off-road racing, with 82 World Championship titles to its name to date. Ongoing success in racing in particular made Husqvarna Motorcycles a highly sought-after brand which became increasingly popular not just in Europe but also in the USA.

The widespread acclaim of Husqvarna Motorcycles was reinforced by famous riders of the times, but above all by one particular celebrity motorcycling fan: American actor Steve McQueen. McQueen was not just an enthusiastic motorcyclist and motor racing fan, he also achieved success himself on the race track on both two and four wheels. Among other things he entered the Six Days in 1964.

The cover photo of the US magazine “Sports Illustrated” dated August 23rd 1971 showing a bare-chested Steve McQueen doing a jump on a Husqvarna Cross 400 remains legendary to this day. The McQueen-Husqvarna combination eventually became the idol of a whole generation of off-road fans ‑ and the Husqvarna Cross 400 has been taken as the historical design role model for the Husqvarna Concept BAJA.

Using modern-day technologies, the Husqvarna Concept BAJA recalls this unique era in American motorcycle racing, featuring the purist, sporty and dynamic styling which is typical of Husqvarna.
The multi-section architecture of the body displays a very clear, purist style. The slim shape of the saddle instantly recalls the Husqvarna models of the 1970s. Meanwhile the concave surfaces of the front and rear mudguard feature certain stylistic elements which are to be found in the latest generation of the Husqvarna models.

The Husqvarna Concept BAJA is powered by a liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. Power transmission is by means of a five-speed gearbox via roller chain to the rear wheel.

In terms of suspension, the Husqvarna Concept Baja features an agile chassis based on a steel tube frame. Front wheel suspension is taken care of by a torsionally stiff upside-down fork, while the rear wheel is controlled by a torsion-resistant dual swinging arm in conjunction with a central spring strut hinged on a lever system. Thanks to the bike's generous spring travel, the agile handling properties of the Husqvarna Concept BAJA go hand in hand with excellent qualities for light off-road riding. The Husqvarna study meets its aspiration to tackle light terrain by means of 19-inch and 17-inch wire spoke wheels at front and rear respectively, and solid stopping power is provided at both front and rear by a Brembo hydraulic disc brake system.

BMW Motorrad and Husqvarna Motorcycles – a powerful partnership.

Husqvarna Motorcycles has been part of the BMW Group since October 1st 2007 and is able to rely on BMW Motorrad as a powerful partner at its side in every respect. Today there are some 260 staff working at the company headquarters in Cassinetta di Biandronno and the model range currently includes 26 motorcycles in the enduro, motocross, 125 and road segments. What is more, Husqvarna offers an extensive range of accessories, rider equipment and merchandising.

The partnership between BMW Motorrad and Husqvarna Motorcycles with its selective clustering of the strengths of each brand promises interesting future developments and has meant that both brands are able to look back over a highly successful year in 2012.

Like the Husqvarna Concept MOAB before it, the Husqvarna Concept BAJA offers an insight into how the Husqvarna Motorcycles model range might be extended in the future.

Rho (Milan), 12 November 2012 – Following the tradition of presenting its new motorcycles at the EICMA International Motorcycle Show in Milan, Ducati has now officially unveiled its complete 2013 range. The new and innovative models are a product of the genius and creativity of Ducati’s talented designers and engineers, and are set to capture thepublic’s attention at the EICMA 2012 event. The 77th edition of Milan’s International Motorcycle Show will pack the impressive Rho International Fair complex from 15-18 November.

The presentation of the 2013 Ducati range took place at the Milano-Rho Fair Auditorium and provided an opportunity for the CEO of Ducati Motor Holding, Gabriele Del Torchio, to address the capacity audience. During thePress Conference, he explained the international market situation and the business success achieved by the Bologna-based manufacturer during 2012. Despite the global market situation and economic difficulties, Ducati’s growth trend has continued, both in terms of market share and of production and sale volumes. This confirms the company’s secure position, underlined with the recent acquisition by the Audi Group, which subsequently further enhanced Ducati’s structure and organisation, enabling it to face the future with a positive and confident attitude"

“Since 2007, we have only seen “red” on the bodywork of our bikes,” said Gabriele Del Torchio, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding during the press conference. “Ducati’s record turnover of 2011,looks set to increase 20% further by the close of 2012 with over 44,000 motorcycles registered. Our market share has also grown from 2.4% in 2006 to 5.2% in 2012, an equivalent of over 10% share in what we call the ‘Ducati Relevant Market’. Ducati has become even more global today, with approximately 9 motorcycles out of every 10 produced in our Borgo Panigale factory in Bologna destined for foreign markets. The USA is currently our top market, achieving a consistent two-figure growth, while other geographical areas, such as the Far East and Latin America where we are investing major resources and reaping promising results, are still yet to reach their full potential.

“With the arrival of the new shareholders, Ducati is in stronger hands than ever, and being part of the Audi Group will definitely contribute to Ducati’s growth and expansion. This acquisition acknowledges the value of everyone who works in our company, the value of the Ducati brand, and of its past achievements.

“EICMA is the best occasion to show our new models and I am particularly proud to present the new Hypermotard in addition to the rest our 2013 range. The excellence of our ‘emotional appeal’, increasingly important in today’s competitive environment, is cleverly combined with our unmistakeable all-Italian style, and the advanced technology used in our new 2013 range confirms that Ducati is, and will continue to be, a product-oriented company with development and innovation representing the milestones of our growth strategy.”

The Ducati Press Conference for the launch of the 2013 model range also provided an ideal occasion to present Ducati’s official racing program for 2013. Four Ducati riders have already been confirmed in MotoGP with Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso for the factory Ducati Team and Ben Spiesand Andrea Iannone for the satellite team. For World Superbike, the new Team Ducati Alstare was officially announced and, coordinated by the Belgian organisation managed by Francis Batta, will field Carlos Checa and Ayrton Badovini aboard the new 1199 Panigale.

The brand ambassador and guest of honour at the Conference was Daniele Molmenti, Gold Medallist at the London Olympic Games in the K1 Canoe Slalomand a passionate “Ducatista”. While on the podium in London earlier this year, the Olympic medal winner explained that he competes in ared canoe to underline his love for Ducati motorcycles. Molmenti greatly appreciated the chance to preview the 2013 models and was particularly interested in the new Superbike 1199 Panigale R, a masterpiece of applied technology and pure performance.

Claudio Domenicali, General Manager of Ducati Motor Holding, then took to the stage to explain the details and features of the 2013 Ducati models. Hefocused in particular on the long-awaited new generation Hypermotard family, and underlined the major, strategic role of the 1199 Panigale supersport model and its world debut with the prestigious R version.

“Here at EICMA 2012 we present one totally new model and a series of significantly updated models in line with our strategic plan,” Said General Manager, Claudio Domenicali at the Press Conference. “The Hypermotard is completely new. Technologically enhanced and presented in standard and SP versions, it has a brand new 4-valve per cylinder, liquid-cooled, Testastretta 11° engine, equipped also with our new secondary air system. The new motorcycle maintains the spirit of the original Ducati Hypermotard, but widens its accessibility with a larger fuel tank and revised ergonomics. We also present the Hyperstrada, a model equipped with a series of features that extend the motorcycle’s use into the world of touring, while maintaining the fun-to-ride character typical of a supermotard.

“With our passion for racing and sport bikes, we just had to produce an ‘R’ version of the 1199 Panigale. The ‘R’ title represents Ducati’s maximum expression of technology. In this case, connecting rods in titanium in addition to many other lightweight components and a race kit that represents a package ideal from which to develop the Superbike version, which will race next year. We have also decided to extend the Diavel range with the introduction of the Diavel Strada. Equipped with luggage, large screen and revised, more upright riding position, the Diavel is now ready also to entertain riders on longer rides outside the city.”

2013 Ducati Hypermotard family

As expected, the focus of attention at the presentation was on the new generation of the Hypermotard family. It takes the innovation and excitement of the original concept and enhances it even further with three incredible new models: The thrilling Hypermotard, Hypermotard SP and the introduction of a stylish and accessible mid-range tourer with everyday practicality – The Hyperstrada. The new range combines Ducati's latest technologies with outstanding Italian design and engineering to write the latest chapter in the Hypermotard story. The Hypermotard and Hypermotard SP deliver a thrilling and fun filled experience, whether on the daily commute or ripping-up the track asphalt, while the Hyperstrada awaits long distance adventure, enabling practical, everyday motorcycling in absolute Ducati style.

Brand new from the ground up, the models introduce the new 110hp Ducati 821cc Testastretta 11° engine in a new Trellis frame equipped with top-of-the range chassis components. The Hypermotard and Hypermotard SP usesharp and sleek styling to maintain that essential Supermotard look, while the Hyperstrada is factory-accessorised with full touring-oriented specification. Combining these two worlds of performance with excellent ergonomics and the Ducati Safety Pack of latest generation 3-level ABS, 8-level Ducati Traction Control and integrated Riding Modes, the new modelsnow gain a relevance that makes perfect sense in modern motorcycling. The new range takes the Hypermotard concept into the future with refined design and user-friendly technologies that will enhance its enjoyment to a wider range of riders.

Ducati Superbike 1199 Panigale R

The 2013 Ducati Superbike family line-up is now completed with the highly-anticipated arrival of the
1199 Panigale R, the absolute flagship of the range and the machine specially developed with enhanced technical specification by Ducati Corse for World Superbike homologation. The exciting “R” model standsalongside the 1199 Panigale and 1199 Panigale S in the new-for-2013  arctic white colour scheme and signature Ducati red, in addition to the exclusive 1199 Panigale S Tricolore.

The “R” takes everything that the “S” model is currently equipped with and applies a list of enhancements to the technicalspecification that enable the model to achieve even greater targets. Titanium con-rods, which save an overall 0.63kg (1.38lb), a 0.7kg (1.54lb) lighter crankshaft flywheel, DLC-coated rocker-arms and revised engine mapping now enhance the Superquadro engine’s crank acceleration and allow it to rev 500rpm higher to a 12,000rpm limit, an incredible engineering achievement for 112mm pistons.

The model also features a new 4-point adjustable swingarm pivot, designed to enable riders a personalised and precise set-up and a race kit consisting of high-penetration racing screen, fairing mirror caps in machined alloy and a full Termignoni exhaust system with dedicated ECU mapping (for track use only). The system provides an impressive power increase of 3% at the top ofthe rev-range and 15% in the mid-range. Additional enhancements to the machine include lightweight carbon fibre rear hugger, rear suspension guard, heels guards, ignition switch surround and top fairing inner panels and carbon fibre protectors for the single-sided swingarm and clutch cover. These lightweight chassis and engine components enable the “R” version a dry weight of just 165kg (363.7lb), even with an ABS braking system fitted as standard equipment. This top-of-the-range model is also fitted with a special race-style seat fabric for added “feel” and equipped with the GPS-enhanced Ducati Data Acquisition system, for automatic lap times and circuit map-linked data. The 1199 Panigale R is dressed in Ducati red with defining white race features, sporting a mix of red and brushed aluminium on the fuel tank with lightweight forged wheels by Marchesini in black.

2013 Ducati Diavel Strada

A surprise entry for the Diavel family comes in the form of the new Diavel Strada. The sophisticated new model, specifically designed for longer journeys, has been factory-accessorised with touring-friendly components that enable all-day riding comfort for both rider and passenger.

Further enhanced with touring comfort and functionality, the carefully designed screen blends effortlessly into the Diavel’s sleek lines to provide improved wind protection, and the rider’s posture is further improved for long-distance with higher handlebars swept back towards the rider and larger, comfort-enhancing seats with revised foam cushioning. The addition of heated grips further underlines the attention given to rider-friendly detail and the higher-output generator that powers them alsoprovides for two handy auxiliary power outlets intended for heated clothing or navigation accessories.

The passenger’s ride has also been improved with a ride-relaxing back-rest and confidence-inspiring grab-rails. The Diavel’s desire for touring practicality has been elegantly satisfied with stylishly shaped side luggage, fitted as standard equipment with revised passenger footpegs and rear lighting. The Diavel Strada arrives in an elegant race titanium colour scheme with racing black frame and black wheels and side luggage.

In addition to their 2013 models, Ducati also took the occassion of the EICMA International Motorcycle Show to present its brand new Accessories and Apparel collections. The show will open to the public 15-18 November with the Ducati stand is situated at G-64 in hall 18.

Honda's big announcement. GoldWing Bagger and CB500's

Honda axed the luggage and windscreen off a GoldWing and put on some bagger-style luggage and moulded in a "gunfighter" seat to give the luxury tourer Goldwing an entirely different look.  Honda also removed the reverse gear and in the process reportedly chopped 62lbs off. That brings the wet weight to 842lbs.

What does remain is the silky smooth 1,832cc horizontally-opposed six with its 116bhp and 123lb/ft of torque.

And (big surprise here) the widely Internet hyped CB500's are in fact coming.  There's the CBR500R, CB500F, and CB500X. The CBR500R is the racy looking bike, the CB500F the standard, and the X is the adventure styled model.

They each get a 471cc parallel-twin said to make 47bhp and 31lb/ft of torque which should be good for about 54mpg. Certainly not lust worthy numbers but the motorcycles should be inexpensive and very practical. The CB500 is reportedly going to MSRP in the US for right around $5500. We'lll have to see what happens in Canada. But we'd expect pricing to be competitive.

Manitoba plans Veteran plates for motorcycles

Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger has announced that the province will  soon be offering a specially designed motorcycle plate to honour Manitoba veterans.

The veterans motorcycle plate, should be available before the 2013 motorcycle riding season, will display the symbolic red poppy.

Speciality licence plates will be administered by Manitoba Public Insurance. Applicants will be able to submit their applications to the Royal Canadian Legion for approval or apply to Manitoba Public Insurance, Vehicle Registration – Licensing Services.

Applicants will need to provide a completed veteran licence plate application form with documentation proving they meet the qualifications for a veteran licence plate. Applicants must also include a $5 application fee made payable to Manitoba Public Insurance.

Casey Stoner - The Last Lap documentary

Australia’s Channel 10 has produced an hour-long documentary about the MotoGP rider Casey Stoner.

Canadian electric motorcycle hits the track in Nova Scotia

If Michael Uhlarik has his way he'll be building electric racing motorcycles in Nova Scotia, Canada. The idea of an electric racing motorcycle that started as a drawing on a napkin has been getting closer and closer to a reality. In fact, a prototype that began its development back in 2010 has been tested at Atlantic Motorsport Park.

Michael is an industrial designer who has worked for many of the big motorcycle brands in Europe such as Piaggio, Yamaha, and Bombardier. He's an occasional contributor to Cycle Canada and HellForLeather. He moved to Halifax about a year ago.

The current prototype - the Amarok P1 weighs in at 325 lbs and has an 80 hp electric engine. He's working on a new version that will hopefully shed 25 lbs. The plan is to make something lightweight and aerodynamic that will be exciting on the track; it won't necessarily keep up with the big internal combustion engine bikes on the straights but it should own the corners!

Full details on the story (including a video) can be found on the Chronicle Herald website.  It's a great read. Please check it out.

We're cheering for Michael and hope that his dream of building electric racing motorcycles in Nova Scotia comes true. We'll be watching this one closely.

MV Agusta confirms 800cc triple "Rivale"

Giovanni Castiglioni has confirmed that MVAgusta will be making a new three-cylinder machine 800cc machine called the Rivale. Styling is along the lines of a Ducati Hypermotard.

When speaking to the folks at Castiglioni indicated that the bike would be 'a new concept' with elements of supermoto and enduro. Perhaps the best part is that it'll be powered by an 800cc version of the firm's triple.

Rumor is that the bike will appear as a concept at the EICMA show in Milan in the fall.  Watch for it!

Hopefully Motovan (Canadian distributor for MV Agusta) will get to bring them to Canada when they are released!

My Italian isn't very good but there's some great simulated pictures of what it might look like. Check it out HERE:
