Tim Hortons (Sudbury) Backed Young Rolls onto BSB Grid with Team WD40

Thornbury Ontario, Canada / Sheffield UK  -  March 25, 2014 -  As announced yesterday Scottish-born / Canadian resident Ben Young is delighted to announce that he will contest the British Superbike 1000cc Superstock Championship aboard the #40 GR Motosport prepared Team WD-40  Kawasaki ZX-10R in the highly competitive 2014 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championships (BSB).  


Young is honoured to continue his long-term partnership with Tim Hortons (Sudbury) franchisee Gilles Bolduc for the third straight year. Not only will 2014 be a special year for Young, Canadian coffee icon Tim Hortons will be celebrating their 50th anniversary as well.

Proudly sporting the Tim Hortons brand Young has been honing his craft racing throughout the United States in the AMA Pro Road Racing’s Daytona Sportbike class since 2011.  2013 was his best year to-date, highlighted at the opening round by an 8th place finish last March in the prestigious Daytona 200. 

Residing in Canada since 2007, Young is no stranger to racing in the UK.  He started off competing in the Scottish Minimoto Championships at the age of five then progressed to compete in the Scottish and British 125GP Championships.

Although this is a home coming of sorts for Young, the resident of Thornbury, Ontario Canada is looking forward the new challenge of riding the 1000cc machine in the British Superbike Superstock class.

Young is also honoured to continue his long-term partnerships with Aria Helmets and Scot-build Developments Inc. in his new venture abroad.  He will continue to be outfitted with the latest AXO America Indy Leather Race Suits, KK4-R Gloves and Aragon Race Boots.
  
Young’s Team WD-40 teammates include:  #7 Barry Burrell (Superbike) and #40 Tarran Mackenzie (Superstock 600).


Ben Young:  “A few opportunities to race in North America presented themselves over the off-season. However, a chance to challenge myself racing in the BSB with such an established and competitive team as Team WD-40 was a brilliant opportunity that I just had to pursue.  I'm looking forward to acclimatizing to the Kawasaki ZX-10R as quickly as possible, getting to know my teammates and the entire crew better and of course having a great year of racing. I can’t thank Brent and Gilles enough for believing in me!”
  
Young signed with Team WD-40 early in the year and was looking forward to reconnecting with fellow AMA Daytona Sportbike competitor Tommy Aquino:  “I was deeply saddened by the news of Tommy’s passing.  I watched Tommy throughout the 2013 season as I know how difficult the BSB scene is.  He was outstanding and was growing to become a major player.  I will be giving my 100% in his honour and to continue his success that he had with Brent and the team.”

Brent Gladwin: “We’re delighted to have Ben join Team WD-40 with Tommy’s recommendation and I can’t wait to get the season started.  We were impressed with Ben’s 2013 AMA Daytona Sportbike season especially his 8th place finish in last year’s Daytona 200.  The 200 is a tough race to do well in and I believe he was the top true privateer.  He has a natural talent and has obviously worked extremely hard to hone that talent; I’m pleased to have signed him”.

BMW Motorrad tops customer satisfaction

BMW Motorrad is overall winner of customer satisfaction survey in the USA.

Munich. With two top rankings and two additional podium positions in a total of six assessment categories, BMW Motorrad was the outright winner of a customer satisfaction survey carried out among motorcycle owners by the Motorcycle Industry Council in the USA. The survey consisted of a written questionnaire that was sent out in autumn 2013 to a total of 50,303 owners of ten motorcycle brands who had purchased a new motorcycle between September 1st 2012 and June 30th 2013.

BMW Motorrad ranked first in the category of production quality, with BMW Motorrad customers giving a particularly high rating to finish, engine and power transmission, suspension, brakes and controls. The warranty and guarantee category was also won by BMW Motorrad.

Meanwhile BMW Motorrad finished second in sales and consultation, with very positive ratings being awarded for the model range available and the presentation of BMW Motorrad models at dealerships. BMW Motorrad also gained second place in the area of product satisfaction. In addition to ride comfort, design and user friendliness, interviewees especially appreciated the engines and drive systems of BMW motorcycles as well as their ride and handling properties.

BMW Motorrad came third in the area of service, where the work quality, personnel and the punctuality of BMW Motorrad dealers were praised. When it came to the criterion of purchase and maintenance costs, BMW Motorrad customers rated the excellent resale value of BMW motorcycles especially highly.

BMW Motorrad customers also commented on their brand loyalty. Here, 80 per cent were able to recommend BMW Motorrad to others.

"We are very pleased to have achieved the top ranking in the Motorcycle Industry Council satisfaction survey: this confirms our clear customer and quality orientation. At the same time, the award is an incentive for BMW Motorrad to continue to improve," said Carsten Saager, Head of Quality BMW Motorrad.

The Motorcycle Industry Council, with its headquarters in Irvine, California, has operated under this name since 1970 but celebrates its one hundredth anniversary this year. Its members include motorcycle and accessory manufacturers, dealers and importers as well as motorcycle service companies and the motorcycle press.

Honda Exhibits World Premiere of New Concept Model "NM4"

Hmmm - looks vaguely reminiscent of the DN-01 albeit a more attractive version. I can't imagine this being slated for North American release.

Honda held its press conference at the 30th Osaka Motorcycle Show 2014 today and unveiled the world premiere of two types of its new production model "NM4" as an exhibition model (planned for production).

The NM4 was developed under the keywords of "the Neo-futuristic" and "COOL," pursuing new, unique styling.

This NM4 was designed to realize two points; the design concept "the Front Massive Styling" and "the cockpit position" focusing on the sense of unity with the rider, that the rider can smoothly get into the vehicle. The low-setup cockpit position and adjustable backrest provide an enjoyable new riding feel. The instrument panel was designed to provide clear readability and the fun riding, as if the rider was experiencing part of a movie scene.

LED lamps are used on the headlight of the powerful-looking front fairing, the tail lamp and the turn signals. In addition, the utility boxes are set up on the right and left sides of the front fairing for small articles.

Two NM4 types were unveiled at the motorcycle show; the simply-configured "NM4-01" which emphasizes its wide, dynamic rear tire and attractive low silhouette, and the "NM4-02” which emanates a unique presence and features a prominent rear design (containing utility boxes on each side of the rear body).

The NM4 will also be exhibited at the 41st Tokyo Motorcycle Show from Friday, March 28 to Sunday, March 30 at Tokyo Big Sight.

BMW Group remains firmly on track in 2013

Motorcycles segment also sets new sales volume record

Sales volume, revenues and earnings of the Motorcycles segment rose in 2013. Revenues edged up by 0.9% to € 1,504 million (2012: € 1,490 million). EBIT rose to € 79 million (2012: € 9 million) and profit before tax to € 76 million (2012: € 6 million). Segment earnings in 2012 were impacted by expenses incurred in realigning the Motorcycles business. Despite challenging market conditions, a new sales volume record was set for 2013, with the number of BMW motorcycles delivered to customers reaching a new of level of 115,215 units (2012: 106,358 units; +8.3%).


BMW Motorrad increases sales by 18.3 % in February. Strongest February sales ever with 8,098 vehicles sold.


In February BMW Motorrad once again achieved record sales amounting to growth of 18.3 %. 8.098 motorcycles and Maxi-Scooters were delivered to customers worldwide in the last month  (previous year: 6.847 units). Deliveries for January and February amount to a total of 13,536 vehicles (previous year: 11,665 units). This corresponds to an increase in sales of 16%.

Heiner Faust, Director of Sales and Marketing at BMW Motorrad: "Following the successful start into the new year we have achieved a significant plus of 18.3 % in sales in February. With a total of 8.098 vehicles sold, this February is the fourth record-selling February in company history in succession. Worldwide demand was satisfyingly high.”

The water-cooled R 1200 GS still remains the top selling bike in the BMW Motorrad range at the beginning of the year, too. The newly developed successor models of the R 1200 GS Adventure and the 
R 1200 RT, which have been on sales since the beginning of February, follow on the heels of the R 1200 GS. From the middle of March customers have two more dynamic new products in the Roadster segment to choose from: the R NineT and the S 1000 R. The C evolution electric scooter will supplement the BMW Motorrad product range from May.

In conclusion Faust states: "Expectations for the season are optimistic based on our customers' positive reactions and due to the successful sales figures of the first two months of the year."

2014 Zero Motorcycles Model Line Now In Dealerships

 Zero Motorcycles has announced that its 2014 model line is now available at authorized dealers across Europe and North America. BMW Motorrad starts off the new year with a strong sales

BMW Motorrad starts off the new year with a strong sales performance. Increase in sales of 12.9% as compared to the previous year.



After its third record year in succession in 2013, BMW Motorrad has started the new year with a significant increase in sales. With 5,438 (previous year: 4,818) units, 12.9% more motorcycles and maxi scooters were supplied to customers worldwide in January 2014 than in the previous year.

Heiner Faust, BMW Motorrad Head of Sales and Marketing: "After achieving an all-time high in 2013, BMW Motorrad has got off to a very successful start in the new year. With an increase of 12.9% as compared to the previous year, this was the best January sales performance in the history of the company."

Faust went on: "We got off to a great start in most markets. There was significant growth in the USA in particular, as well as in the Asian markets. Our new products are in great demand all over the world."

This spring, BMW Motorrad will be starting the new season with six new models in addition to the existing product range. In the touring bike segment these will be the dynamic new edition of the R 1200 RT along with the K 1600 GTL Exclusive, fitted with numerous extras, while the enduro segment is expanded with the water-cooled R 1200 GS Adventure. The roadster segment boasts the addition of two new products: the R nineT and the S 1000 R. Over and above this, BMW Motorrad will be entering the field of single-track electromobility for the first time with the BMW C evolution.

"In view of this wide range of new products and after a successful start to the year, we are confident as we look ahead to the upcoming motorcycle season," concluded Faust.

World Enduro Canada is pleased to announce the 2014 Royal Distributing Canadian Cross Country Championship.  We are looking forward to another great season of off road racing across Canada.

Harley-Davidson (NYSE: HOG) is at it again. Fresh off the unveiling of the new Harley-Davidson®Street 750 model and the launch of Project RUSHMORE, the Company unleashed today two new motorcycles that expand its diverse lineup of street bikes, and put more models for more riders on the showroom floor of each Harley-Davidson® Retailer.

The mid-year release of the retro-cool Low Rider®and rangy SuperLow1200T motorcycles completes the largest new-model launch in Harley-Davidson’s 110-year history and keeps the throttle pinned on the company’s accelerated, Customer-led product-development process.

Low Rider® Motorcycle
In 1977, Harley-Davidson created a ride-it-hard, put-it-away dirty, make-your-own-boundaries custom motorcycle that became an icon – the Low Rider®. Today that defiant attitude returns with a vengeance as the legendary Low Rider® model name is reprised for an all-new cruiser that rolls with old-school class and exciting new performance. A polished headlamp visor, wrinkle black trim, and split five-spoke aluminum wheels are touchstone styling elements from the original Low Rider® model.

The unrelenting thrust of the Twin Cam 103 powertrain signals departure with a satisfying, throaty tone through twisting header pipes feeding a 2-into-1 exhaust. SuperLow 1200T  Motorcycle

A detachable windshield, locking saddlebags, and Michelin® Scorcher™ 11T touring tires are standard equipment. Docking points accommodate detachable accessory racks and backrests for ease of customization.

A new seat and control ergonomics are shaped specifically to give more riders long-distance comfort. The SuperLow1200T motorcycle can run with the pack thanks to the power of a 1,200 cc Evolution V-Twin engine, and it weighs 53.5 Kg less than the lightest Harley-Davidson® Big Twin Touring motorcycle.
