Ducati Island Returns to Circuit of the Americas for MotoGP Weekend

Beginning April 8, thousands of Ducati fans from around the world will gather to experience Ducati Island at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin for the one-and-only MotoGP stop in the United States during the 2016 schedule.

Known as a must-stop experience for race goers, Ducati Island has grown into the largest Ducati fan activation at any MotoGP race around the world. The hugely popular Ducati Company Store, presentations by Ducati Master Technicians will all return, with Ducati’s various performance partners, including Öhlins, Pirelli, Brembo and Marchesini. The owner hospitality amenities that riders love will also be there: Ducati Welcome Center, Ducati Gear Check, Ducati Owners Cafe, Ducati Fashion Models, the Scrambler Land of Joy and the Ducati Kids. A new addition is the XDiavel Lounge with the new Ducati XDiavel that is taking the cruiser world by storm.

Additional Ducati activities in Austin include a Ducati MotoGP Party at Ducati Austin on the evening of Thursday, April 7, a Ducati Owners Club Event on Friday evening and the much anticipated Ducati Red Storm Ride early on Sunday morning before the races.

For music Ducati will once again be presenting a main stage for all the action and entertainment. Ducati presents our host and MC, DJ HAPA and live performances from Otis the Destroyer, Moonlight Towers and returning for her 3rd year on Ducati Island, Ms Kimberly Dunn.

On Sunday following the day’s racing, Ducati and COTA are proud to present headliner and American singer and songwriter Franky Xavier Perez! Franky with his backing band, The Truth will perform on the Ducati Island Main Stage to close the weekends racing action. Perez, who has been compared by music critics to Robert Plant and Otis Redding, has collaborated on stage with Slash from Guns-N’-Roses, The Doors, and members of The Cult, Weezer and Velvelt Revolver. Ducati fans may remember Franky as the front man for the Ducati All Stars which played select shows across the West Coast and headlined the 2012 World Ducati Week in Italy. He was also included as a re-occuring live band member of the Sons of Anarchy television series. Currently Perez is the singer for Apocalytica, whose U.S. tour begins this spring.

Indian Motorcycle Presents the 'Frontier 111' Custom Springfield

Indian Motorcycle®, America’s first motorcycle company, is proud to present the “Frontier 111” crafted by Azzkikr Custom Baggers of Phoenix, Ariz., as a radical interpretation of the new Indian® Springfield™ motorcycle.

The first custom to be built based on the 2016 Indian Springfield, Azzkikr’s Frontier 111 showcases builder Len Edmondson’s exceptional talents for creating award-winning and fully functional artwork. With this bike, his acute attention to detail and outrageous craftsmanship offer a truly show-stopping example of a thoroughly modern retro bagger that features classic lines via contemporary, artistic flare.

The Frontier 111 has obvious salutes to pedigree by incorporating the heritage of the Indian brand’s skirted front fender, a leaf-spring equipped springer front end, jockey shifter with foot clutch, and historically inspired color palette surrounding Indian Motorcycle’s powerful Thunder Stroke® 111 engine.

“We have been working on the cutting edge of the custom bagger movement for years now, but it’s not often that you get to reveal a custom based on a motorcycle the factory just introduced,” says Azzkikr’s Len Edmondson. “From Day #1, we wanted something that reflected the big front wheel trend but still spoke to the heritage and style that is uniquely Indian.”

The sleek Frontier 111 incorporates a sweeping line from its hand-built headlight housing to the tip of its expertly crafted rear fender. The front clip includes a custom-made triple tree sourced from KewlMetal, a springer-type suspension utilizing a leaf-spring, a 26-inch spoked wheel wrapped in Metzeler rubber, and a hand-formed aluminum hub hiding a modern disc brake system. Up top the Springfield’s fuel tank was modified for a vintage look and topped with a polished dash piece featuring stock gauges, and a hand-tooled leather seat diverts the eye to the back of the bike, where you’ll find hand-formed side panels, bags and rear fender. The removable bags are fully functional with a mechanical lid, and there’s a vintage-look taillight assembly with brake light and indicators. Hidden by the bags, the stock-size 16-inch rear wheel is spoked while rear air-suspension allows the bike to ride at factory height or drop low for show. As with everything else, the striking red and black paint palette with gold leaf detailing also was done in-house.

“Everything on the bike aside from the triple tree was hand-made or manufactured in our shop to an OEM quality standard to fit on the Springfield’s stock frame, so nothing on it makes any actual changes to the engineering of the present bike,” Edmondson says. “In other words, if I wanted to send parts to someone to reproduce this bike with a new Springfield, they could put it together using the same bolt patterns. That makes this build truly revolutionary.”

“The Indian Springfield is a touring bike that is meant to be ridden, and by building an extreme custom around the stock frame the Frontier 111 stays true to the spirit of the motorcycle,” commented Reid Wilson, Marketing Director for Indian Motorcycle. “Len and his team did an amazing job with this build and it was very exciting to unveil this bike at the 75th Anniversary of Daytona Bike Week.”

Not only will this be Young’s first venture into the premier Superbike class this will also be his first-ever season on a BMW and his first full season racing on Canadian soil since he won the PRO GP125 R.A.C.E Championship in 2010.

The resident of Collingwood, Ontario spent this past season racing in the U.S. with the powerful RoadRace Factory team in the MotoAmerica Supersport championship where he earned his first MotoAmerica podium at Road America along with several top 5 finishes. In 2015, he also achieved two podium finishes at home in Canada during a one-off race weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Also returning are long time partners Custom Home Builder and Renovation specialists Scot-build Developments Inc as well as AXO Racing will have Young protected with their premium race suits, gloves and boots.

After a brief respite the proud Canuck with the Scottish lilt will once again don an Arai Helmet for maximum safety and comfort as well as welcoming back K&N Filters, Hindle Exhaust, Woodcraft and Vortex Racing.

New partners for 2016 include; Epic Racewear, who will keep the crew looking and feeling Epic with custom crew shirts and KarmaComa Studio who will document Ben’s first season racing on Canadian soil and will delve further into the history and future of the iconic BMW brand on its 100th anniversary through a multi-part YouTube series.

Young recently picked up his BMW S1000RRs at BMW Toronto which was documented by KarmaComa Studio in this video:

Scott Cartier, designer and technician at Hindle Exhaust Systems will be Young’s Chief Mechanic for the 2016 CSBK season.

Inspired by the rich heritage of Indian Motorcycle, the Indian Springfield offers classic styling blended with thoroughly modern technology for a purist’s take on both touring comfort and urban versatility.
The Indian Springfield can be quickly converted into a cruiser with the quick-release windshield and saddlebags removed, or transformed into a high-capacity touring model with Genuine Indian Motorcycle accessories. While maintaining the style and luxury for which Indian Motorcycle is renowned, the Indian Springfield makes its own distinctive mark in the bagger and touring category. While related to the iconic Indian® Chief® family, the multifaceted Indian Springfield hard bagger was developed with a unique new trunk-compatible chassis for higher loading capacity and a premium touring experience without sacrificing handling prowess.

Designed for an unobstructed view of the road ahead, the Indian Springfield sports a bespoke quick-release windshield that creates a large air pocket for rider and passenger comfort. Other comfort features such as remote locking hard bags and adjustable passenger floorboards come standard along with real leather seating, high-resolution Anti-Lock Brakes, tire pressure monitoring, electronic cruise control, and a powerful headlight and dual driving lights. Standard front and rear highway bars allow mounting of accessories and offer valuable protection from tip-overs. Brightly chromed forks, headlight housing, fender trim, engine covers, exhaust and handlebars with internal wiring bring the shine along for the ride.

“The new Indian Springfield wasn’t designed to fill a space in our lineup; it was built to fill a space in the hearts of riders who value the rich heritage and fine craftsmanship of Indian Motorcycle, and who want both a pure touring bike and a sleek urban cruiser,” said Steve Menneto, President of Motorcycles for Polaris Industries. “The Springfield’s unmatched versatility will win the hearts of motorcycling purists around the world.”

Powered by the highly regarded Thunder Stroke® 111 engine, the Indian Springfield delivers 119 ft./lbs. of torque (North American models) to conquer any highway in any weather. Limited Edition Jack Daniel's Edition Indian motorcycles sell out in 24 hours!

Indian Motorcycle®, America’s first motorcycle company, is happy to announce that the entire production run of the Limited Edition Jack Daniel’s® Indian® Springfield™ and Indian® Chief® Vintage motorcycle models was sold in just one day.

The individually numbered motorcycles – the first-ever production vehicles to feature Jack Daniel’s livery – became available for purchase on March 4. Created to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Jack Daniel Distillery, which was registered in 1866, these special models were produced in extremely limited numbers that did not exceed 150 total units. Of the 149 units sold, 97 were purchased by customers in the U.S. and 38 found a home with international customers.

The final unsold unit, #1 of the limited edition series, an Indian Chief Vintage version that was the custom painted prototype built by Klock Werks, will be auctioned at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas on October 6-8 at the Mandalay Bay resort, with all monies from the auction benefitting Operation Ride Home. More information can be found at Barrett-Jackson.com and JDOperationRideHome.com.

Designed in conjunction with Brian Klock and his inspired team at Klock Werks in Mitchell, S.D., the Limited Edition Jack Daniel’s Indian Springfield and Chief Vintage models both feature an array of genuine Indian Motorcycle accessories and custom accessories, as well as Jack Daniel’s-inspired custom paint and logos, badging, leather saddle and saddlebags. Each fender is inscribed with the names of the seven Master Distillers who have overseen the Jack Daniel’s distilling process over its 150-year history, and an inscription of Jack Daniel’s “Bottles and Throttles Don’t Mix” mantra reminds riders that drinking and riding are meant to be enjoyed separately. Both models also come with a custom-printed Jack Daniel’s whiskey barrel top to commemorate each bike, a two-year unlimited mileage factory warranty and free membership in the Indian Motorcycle Riders Group™ for one year. Each motorcycle will be hand-painted and built, with delivery occurring no later than August 2016.

“We knew that the pairing of Jack Daniel’s and Indian Motorcycles would be popular, but we never expected to get such a tremendous response in such a short time frame,” said Dave Stang, Director of Events & Sponsorships for Jack Daniel’s. “In special recognition of Brian Klock’s contribution to this program and his continuing support of many initiatives in the motorcycle community, Jack Daniel’s and Indian Motorcycle have partnered to give him the last motorcycle of the limited edition run. Brian Klock is now the proud owner of the Jack Daniel’s Indian Springfield #150.”

“The quick sale of these commemorative motorcycles speaks to the enduring appreciation for both the Indian Motorcycle and Jack Daniel’s brands,” said Steve Menneto, President of Motorcycles for Polaris Industries. “These motorcycles will always have a place in history, and will certainly be some of the most treasured of the new models coming out of Spirit Lake, Iowa.”

BMW Motorrad Canada 2015 Sales Overview

BMW Motorrad Canada reported sales of 2,015 units for the year, up 3.9 per cent compared to 2014, an all-time record for Motorrad in Canada. December sales were 35 units, down 62.4 per cent compared to December, 2014. Despite a difficult December, the brand surpassed the 2,000-unit mark for the first time in its Canadian history, and reported its best sales year ever.

While sales across the BMW Motorrad lineup exceeded expectations, particularly noteworthy was the brand’s strongest selling model in 2015, the perennially popular R1200RT. The R1200GS and GS Adventure models and S1000RR were also strong contributors to the brand’s annual success.

The Motorrad family is now looking ahead to the 2016 BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy event in February and March in Thailand. At this event, a Canadian GS Trophy team will compete on a world stage riding specially-prepared versions of the renowned R1200GS in a supremely challenging off-road event.

Ducati debut's the XDiavel and all-new draXter concept

Ducati debut's the XDiavel and all-new draXter concept bike at the Motor Bike Expo of Verona

At the Motor Bike Expo of Verona (22-24 January) Ducati exhibited a further addition to its XDiavel cruiser world, the all-new draXter. This “concept bike” interprets the XDiavel world from a Drag-racing viewpoint. The project was developed by the Ducati Design Center's Advanced Design area, a section dedicated to exploring the future style and design concepts of Ducati motorcycles.

Their ideas and sketches have allowed the Ducati prototype department to come up with the draXter, starting from a standard production XDiavel. The beating heart of the draXter is that of an extreme dragster with premium racing componentry. The suspension and brakes are taken directly from the Panigale Superbike. This styling exercise has accentuated the lines and proportions of the XDiavel making them more extreme than ever and turning the draXter into a unique, breath-taking "racer".

The number 90 on the side of the Ducati draXter recalls the racing world, yet also pays homage to Ducati's 90th anniversary, being celebrated this year.

Honda's City Adventure scooter headed for production

Honda's City Adventure scooter seems to be headed for production. Whether we'll see it (eventually) in Canada remains to be seen. Despite the spoked wheels and "ADV" moniker it might not so fun to take off road BUT looks to be a very capable city and all-round scoot. The engine is the forward-tilted 745cc parallel-Twin engine from the Honda Integra and NC series.

A camouflaged prototype was recently spotted undergoing road testing. Italian site - Omnimoto - recently published a video of scooter very closely resembling the concept model that debuted at EICMA.

From Google translator here's what they had to say about the video:

We have caught the new adventure of Wing House scooters being tested on the notorious cobblestones of the capital . After seeing him in the concept version last EICMA in Milan, the project City Adventure - introducing a new concept of mobility, somewhere between an urban commuter and an adventurous bike - " takes to the streets " for development in view of of montagio chain. We are able to provide them a preview thanks to our exclusive images.
